FLESH
What began innocently as a tender whisper of love, ended in a scream of terror. Such is the beginning of life and it’s contradictions.
FLESH is an examination of physical geography- of the internal and external landscapes. Of primal urges both aggressive and tender, which exist in the same space. There is an awareness of everyday life. Profound. Mundane.
My paintings are a series of random interactions and gestures, with no preconceived idea of what should exist beforehand. I begin each piece with a gesture. The mark may be bold and energetic, a series of small dots or anything in between. The nature of the initial gesture influences both the image and emotional content that follows.
The materials I choose fight with each other. Quarrel. Oil and water push and pull to create the work. Each material leaves behind their individual marks, which often surprise me. The intertwined, opposing energies add to the complexity of the story and it's history.
